Volleyball Continues To Grow In Esperance

As part of the Alcohol Think Again Regional Accessible Program, Volleyball WA has continued expanding volleyball into regional Western Australia. Through funding from the Shire of Esperance and the Esperance District Recreation Association, Volleyball WA has recently delivered a range of programs and clinics in Esperance.

Following on from a previous trip to the region in June 2018, Esperance Volleyball Association showed interest in the opportunity for a follow up visit to focus on beach volleyball. An experienced Level 3 Elite Coach, Mandy Combes, visited the town from 27th February to 3rd March 2019. Mandy conducted school clinics, assisted athletes at the Esperance Volleyball Association training sessions and coached athletes at Round 6 of the Alcohol. Think Again Beach Tour which was being held in Esperance.

The clinics conducted at three different schools along with the training at Esperance Volleyball Association and the Alcohol Think Again Beach Tour saw over 120 participants take part across the visit.

“It was a great opportunity to have Mandy visit Esperance to provide coaching clinics. Her expertise in Beach Volleyball was of great value and saw a wide range of Esperance locals obtain high level coaching. From school kids to Esperance Volleyball Association talent development athletes and Esperance Volleyball Association senior competitive athletes taking advantage” Esperance Volleyball Association President Nick Wells said.

The grant received from the Shire of Esperance and the Esperance District Recreation Association has helped develop volleyball in schools and develop the athletes at the Esperance Volleyball Association. The funding supported the Esperance Talent Development Program that is run by the Esperance District Recreation Association. The aim of this program is to enhance the regional talent development in Esperance.

“Volleyball WA would like to thank the Shire of Esperance for their support of the Esperance Volleyball Association and the development of the sport in the town.  Esperance Volleyball Association is a great example of an association that continues to enhance regional talent development and we look forward to seeing the results.” Volleyball WA Operations and Support Manager Helen Shields said.

Volleyball WA will continue to support the development of volleyball for schools in Esperance, the Esperance Volleyball Association and throughout regional WA. To find out more and to discover how your club can get involved, please contact Volleyball WA.
