Road to Tokyo 2020 begins for Volleyroos

The Helloworld Travel Australian Volleyroos have begun their campaign to secure a spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Both the Australian Men and Women teams are currently playing in the Asian Volleyball Qualification tournaments to claim one of only 12 spots at Tokyo 2020.

Australia’s top teams face a tough challenge to progress beyond the continental stage, with both teams required to win their respective Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament.

WA’s Luke Perry, Max Staples and Samuel Walker are in Jiangmen, China for the Men’s tournament. The boys won their first game on the 7th of January against South Korea in a tightly fought five-setter. Unfortunately, they couldn’t continue their winning ways, with a loss against Qatar this morning. The loss today means the boys will have to dig deep in their last pool round match against India on the 9th to progress.

Jen Sadler is WA’s sole female in the Women Volleyroos battling it out in Nakhon Ratchasiuma, Thailand. Sadler and the Australian women will open their campaign later today against Chineses Taipei, before facing Thailand on the 9th.
