Meet the Masters of the Masters Games

Many of you will know and/or have played with one or more of these terrific Volleyballers – Ann Wells, Jan Perry, Linda Clayton, and Joan Strikwerda-Brown.  Each are Volleyball WA Order of Merit recipients, club Life Members, and all have traveled the country competing in numerous Australian and World Masters Games.

In 2021, they will again join forces to compete at the Australian Masters Games here in Perth in Indoor Volleyball 60+ category. Part of the appeal of the Australian Masters Games they said is the chance to travel to new places, meet new people, and of course play Volleyball. They find inspiration in watching others compete across all sports and enjoy the social aspect of the games.  They have tasted success many times at the games bringing home several medals and of course, would be keen to do the same on home turf.

The Australian Masters Games was created by the Confederation of Australian Sport in 1987, it is a biennial week-long festival of sport that brings together weekend warriors from around Australia, and the world, to enjoy an extensive sport and social program in an exciting holiday destination. It is one of Australia’s largest regular multisport festivals with an extensive sports program offering over 50 different sports including Volleyball. Competitors don’t need to be a superstar to participate, with entry open to anyone over 30.

This year would be a great opportunity for more Perth locals to get involved with no interstate travel costs and the relative safety of staying close to home during the continued uncertainty around COVID.

For the Fab Four, they see this as possibly their last opportunity to compete in an Australian Masters Games here in Perth making this event even more special.
