The Perth Steel are Western Australia’s premier indoor volleyball teams made up of the best available athletes in the state, and as such selection into the program is extremely competitive and performance based. This year, VWA is introducing a new process for players to express interest in the program.
Open to 2024 WAVL State League and State League Reserves players, WA athletes currently competing overseas in College/Professional Leagues, or WA athletes interstate in a Volleyroo/Australian Volleyball Academy Program or State League equivalent, all athletes who wish to trial for the team this year must submit an expression of interest prior to the closing date.
Athletes who were not a part of the Squad in 2023 are encouraged to speak with their State League or State League Reserves Club Coach prior to submitting an expression of interest to receive an endorsement.
Once expressions of interest close, the Perth Steel Head Coaches will be communicating directly with your Club Team Coaches (and/or U19 & U23 Junior State Team Coaches) and attending the relevant WAVL games at the start of the season to collaboratively identify athletes to be invited to Steel Squad Sessions. Expectations are that Steel athletes are competing in State League, with potential opportunity for developing Youth (U18) and Junior (U23) athletes who may be competing in State League Reserves.
Training will be commencing in April on Wednesday evenings (start date TBC) and Saturday mornings from 6th April during the WAVL State League season, and then moving to Tuesday & Thursday evening sessions after the conclusion of the WAVL State League season on 27th July.
