After a series of review meetings and planning throughout 2019, including an analyses of findings from the 2019 Clubs Conference, the Volleyball WA junior development pathway will see a new structure implemented in 2020.
What was previously known as the Volleyball WA Indoor Development Squad, will now be split into two clearly defined development opportunities.
“Over the past twelve months, Volleyball WA has undergone multiple review sessions with our committees and researched the methods of success from other states.” said Volleyball WA State Teams & Events Coordinator, Jackie Tamburri.
“We’ve given ourselves the opportunity to reflect on the past few years and plan ahead to make small improvements based on stakeholder feedback.”
Junior Steel Development Camp
22nd – 24th April at Aquinas College
The purpose of this school holiday day camp will be to provide a fun learning environment and opportunity for skills development to kids aged 7-14. The camp is for those who are interested in furthering their volleyball skills or just starting out in the sport. The camp will also include coaching from the 2020 Volleyball WA Steel athletes and provide an opportunity for new athletes to meet Volleyball WA clubs during a ‘Club Open Day’.
“Our goal for the new structure is to engage a larger base of primary school and early high school-aged athletes with the Junior Steel Development Camp. Then help transition them into our Clubs and Volleyball WA’s pathway programs such as the Junior State Teams and WA Steel Teams.”
Junior State Team Preseason Program
4th – 21st May at various locations
The purpose of this weeknight program is to provide athletes wishing to compete in the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships with six high-level training sessions before the State Team Trials on the 23rd and 25th May. This program will be led by the State Team Head Coaches and is strongly encouraged for all U15 to U18 athletes wishing to represent WA in September. This program will then be replicated for the Junior Beach State Teams in October.
