The 2017 Australian Volleyball Schools’ Cup saw attendance records tumble as Volleyball Australia brought the Southern Hemisphere’s largest school sporting event to life once again. A total of over five hundred teams competed across 43 divisions, with more than 2,500 matches being played across a span of six days. The event, one of the biggest on the Australian Volleyball calendar, again showcased the best in secondary school volleyball and was a life-changing experience for many young athletes.
Our WA schools who made the trip to Melbourne also enjoyed their own success, with 10 teams winning medals for their schools-4 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze. WA was represented by schools from across the WA Metro Area:
Aquinas College
Greenwood College: 12FD3 – GOLD
Hale School: 10MD3 – SILVER
Mandurah Baptist College
Penhros College: 12FD2 – GOLD 10FD2 – BRONZE 8FD1 – BRONZE
Perth Modern School
Prendiville Catholic College
Rossmoyne SHS: U/16FH – BRONZE 10FD2 – SILVER 10MD2 – GOLD
Santa Maria College
Servite College
St Mary’s AGS: 10FD2 – GOLD 7FD3 – SILVER
Trinity College
Wesley College
The WA presence was felt throughout the competition, with newcomers Trinity College catching the attention of all in the Open Boys Honours division:
“Perhaps even more exciting for organisers was the emergence of more strong competition to challenge traditional heavy weights Brighton and Heathfield. Trinity College from Western Australia made their first appearance in the Boys Open Honours division and were a force to be reckoned with defeating Heathfield to finish a very credible fifth.
“It was so good to see new comers like Trinity College from WA do so well in their first appearance.” said Volleyball Australia CEO Mathieu Meriaux.”
