Volleyball WA successful in the Innovation Challenge

Volleyball WA is pleased to announce that it was successful in securing funding for a project which will enable our sport to grow through the Department of Local Government, Sport & Cultural Industries Innovation Challenge Program.

The project details which we are keeping under wraps for now will take an innovative approach to how we deliver opportunities for people to play the game around the state. It is a digital extension to our very successful Discover Volleyball campaign which seeks to engage everyone who aspires to play the sport, focusing on social play through a range of products and programs.

Our goal is to facilitate more opportunities for spontaneous play and active recreation in our public open spaces like beaches, parks, and reserves. Volleyball is a game that can be played by all ages, genders and fitness levels and our project will increase accessibility to places to play and the equipment required to play.

The innovation aligns nicely with our Places to Play Strategy 2019-2020 which aims to ensure that the right opportunities are provided in the right place at the right time to satisfy demand.

In addition, the project will also help us to deliver on two of our four strategic priority areas: participation and profile, increasing the number of people playing and our ongoing engagement with them.

The project will effectively get started in July for a launch before summer 2022/23, as the project takes shape and key stakeholders are secured more details will be released.

The State government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is a major supporter of Volleyball in Western Australia. Sport and recreation build stronger, healthier, happier, and safer communities.
