Friday Fitness and Fun in Rockingham

Volleyball WA & Reclink WA will be running a 16 week sitting volleyball series on Fridays at the Mike Barnett Recreation Centre in Rockingham from March 5, 2021. “This is the first time we have been able to bring sitting volleyball to the Rockingham area and we would like to thank the City of Rockingham for their support and helping us show how Volleyball is truly a game for all,” said Volleyball WA CEO Robyn Kuhl.

What Is Sitting Volleyball you ask? Sometimes known as Paralympic volleyball, it is volleyball for disabled athletes. It entered the Paralympic Games as a demonstration sport for amputees in 1976 in Toronto Canada and has played as a medal sport thereafter.

Played entirely from a sitting position the game uses a specially lowered net to allow participants to serve, pass and rally just like the traditional game. And just like the traditional game it is a fun and social way to keep fit.

“We’re delighted to partner with Volleyball WA to provide this great inclusive sport to the Rockingham community at the Rock Sportz program.   Sitting Volleyball is fun and can be enjoyed by all abilities and fitness levels.  It’s a great sport for physical wellbeing and inclusive social connection” said Senior Sports Coordinator, Simone Ireland.

Sessions run from 10am – 11.30am each Friday, the cost is just $5 per session with no ongoing commitment required and we would encourage everyone to give it a try. To register contact 0408 982 891 or [email protected].
