After a month of tryouts, the Western Australian Volleyball League (WAVL) starts this weekend at the Loftus Centre in Leederville. The Northern Stars will be looking to repeat their League win in the men’s SuperLeague division and UWA in the women’s.
Executive Director Robyn Kuhl says that Volleyball WA has made number of changes for the 2014 Season including moving the WAVL Junior League competition to Friday evenings.
“We are looking forward to starting the VWA 2014 Western Australian Volleyball League this Sunday! We have made a number of changes for the 2014 season including having set game start times for the Super League Men’s and Women’s teams at 11.30am and 1.30pm respectively. The U16 and U18 team WAVL Junior League competition have moved to Friday evenings.
“The result of these and a number of other changes has seen an additional 20 teams join the competition – which is fantastic result and reflective of all the hard work that is being done by the volleyball community to grow the sport.
“I thank all the Clubs and their Presidents and Committees for all their hard work in making sure that all the players and teams will be able to get onto the court for their first games on Sunday. Good luck to all the players, teams, family and supporters for the 2014.”
The WAVL season starts this Sunday 6th April, and will play through until a finals series that starts on Sunday 31 August. The Grand Final will be played on Friday 19 September. All Sunday games will be played at the Loftus Centre, but there will also be fixtures played at The Rise in Maylands, Rossmoyne Senior High School & St Marys College.
