COVID-19 UPDATE FEBRUARY 5, 2021

As you are all aware the Western Australian Government has placed Western Australians in the Perth Metro and the Peel Regions into COVID -19 out of lockdown restrictions as of 6.00pm tonight.  For those of you who need further information regarding the restrictions please refer to the link below.

Several people have also asked for some clarification on some of the restrictions as they pertain to sport and recreation.  Volleyball WA has asked for clarification in the following areas;

  • Are masks for Under 12 children playing sport (both indoors and outdoors) required?
  • Are masks required for coaches, teachers, and referees for senior school-aged students?
  • What is the descriptor/ definition for ‘vigorous exercise’?
  • Are there any exemptions to masks for indoor sport and recreation activities other than medical reasons?
  • Are there any specific requirements for school-based activities (school and volleyball clubs)?
  • When will the Sports FAQ’s be available from the WA Government?

As soon as the WA Government (Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation) provide the responses to these questions and provides the Sport FAQ’s we will communicate them to our volleyball community.

We would also advise that you check with your venue/facility/school providers as to the decisions they are making in relation to volleyball (and all sporting) training and competitions at their venues, including the attendance of families and spectators.  At this stage, we have been advised that several of them will not be allowing sporting activities until February 14, 2021.

Over the weekend, and until further advice is received, Volleyball WA requests that you always ensure that you make decisions pertaining to your sporting activities that follow the WA Government directives.

From a Volleyball WA Office perspective, the office will be opened next week with the VWA Staff in the office on roster. If you need to contact them, then please contact them via the office telephone (08) 9228 8522 or their emails.  The link to the relevant email addresses can be found on the Volleyball WA website page. https://volleyballwa.com.au/about-us/staff/

Volleyball WA ask that you please stay up to date via the relevant government updates and further information that Volleyball WA will provide on our Website and Social Media pages.

In closing, Western Australians have also experienced bush fires in the hill regions of Perth and for many this has been extremely challenging and distressing, please continue to look after each other and your families and friends.  At these times we are reminded of the importance of our friends, families, and team-mates, please stay safe, healthy and check in with each other during these times.

Kind Regards

Volleyball WA Board and Staff teams.
