Hola! to our newest staff member, José

Volleyball WA (VWA) is pleased to welcome José Manuel Martinez Rebollar to the newly created role of Education Coordinator. He will be responsible for building and developing our official’s community to support the current and future growth of the sport.

This includes recruiting new people to the roles and also supporting the upskilling of our existing pool of coaches and referees.

José is joining VWA from Melbourne, where he studied, worked, and was involved in the Volleyball community.

His journey in Volleyball started in his home country, Mexico. His career included playing in the Mexican National League, a stint in France, and eight years as a member of the Mexican National Team which included competing at the Olympics.

It was in 2019 when he took the decision to come to Australia to study a Master’s in Arts and Culture Management at the University of Melbourne during which time he won a Silver medal in the Victorian League, a Gold medal at the Uni Nationals, and a Bronze medal in the Australian Volleyball League (AVL) – all achieved in the first 4 months following his arrival.

After completing his Master’s, José worked in the events industry, playing a role in several arts festivals across the country before relocating to WA to work for VWA.

As for his expectations José says “I’m excited to be involved holistically in the sport, as player/coach/referee and part of the VWA team. WA seems to have a very tight-knit and passionate volleyball community and being able to be part of it as a player and assisting in its development will be great.”
