Volleyball Australia recently hosted the FIVB Level 2 Coaching Course in Adelaide from 6-10 July. The course aimed to provide coaches with the opportunity to enhance their expertise with insights from an official FIVB coach developer and learn about the latest trends in the modern game of volleyball.
The course was led by Mark Lebedew, former National Australian Coach and a distinguished figure appointed by the FIVB.
Courtesy of the Women’s National League Team Grant provided to Volleyball WA by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, VWA was able to assist our three Perth Steel Women’s Coaches with financial support to attend this course for professional development.
Perth Steel Head Coach Pauline Manser, and Assistant Coaches Laurel Wentworth and Carly Walters all found the experience to be one of great value.
“It was a valuable experience to attend the clinic with two other WA-based female coaches,” said Manser. “I found the course affirming regarding my philosophical and technical direction. The opportunity to discuss the presentation with Carly and Laurel throughout the course has cemented the ideas moving through robust discussion and reflection.”
As the coaching group working with the Perth Steel Women, this course was a great opportunity for the three coaches to share and explore insights ahead of the 2024 Australian Volleyball Super League.
“The recent FIVB Level 2 Course was a great insight to other coaching platforms,” added Walters. “It was a wonderful opportunity to network alongside other coaches from around Australia. Having attended the course with both Pauline and Laurel gave us time to reflect on the practices we are doing in WA and concreting the direction we are taking our players here in Perth.”
Wentworth expressed her thanks to Volleyball WA and DLGSC for the opportunity to support female coaches. “This unique opportunity to discuss volleyball methods with fellow coaches has helped to shape our approach to coaching, with a focus on developing WA players to be their best,” she added.
Volleyball WA and the Perth Steel Women’s Program are grateful for the support the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries provides to enhance development opportunities for women in volleyball.
You can watch Pauline, Laurel and Carly coaching the Perth Steel Women this Saturday at 5:00 pm at Warwick Stadium for the Australian Volleyball Super League opening round!
