Our recent visit to Kalgoorlie, supported by Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC), was a significant step in connecting with the local volleyball community and enhancing our partnerships.
The trip featured a variety of activities aimed at promoting volleyball in the region. We started with a tour of the new Basketball Stadium, discussing collaborations between Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association (KVA), the local Basketball Association and Volleyball WA. A productive KVA Committee Meeting followed, where we explored strategies to support the development of volleyball in Kalgoorlie.
We conducted a well-received clinic at North Kalgoorlie Primary School, introducing students to volleyball and igniting their interest in the sport. Important discussions with the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and DLGSC representatives were also held, focusing on future opportunities for the region.
In addition, we hosted a Referee Workshop to enhance the skills of local officials, which saw an impressive turnout of 15 participants. We participated in a joint meeting between KVA and Boulder Pasifika Volleyball Association (BPVA) to exchange ideas and strengthen ties. The visit concluded with the delivery of a Junior Clinic and State Champs Team Training, where we engaged with young athletes and encouraged their passion for volleyball.
Reflecting on the visit, Kirsten Tyson, Volleyball WA’s Club & People Development Coordinator, remarked, “The trip to Kalgoorlie was truly rewarding. Meeting the passionate individuals who drive volleyball in this community was inspiring, and I’m confident that the connections we made will lead to growth for the sport.”
We are incredibly grateful to DLGSC for their generous funding, which made this visit possible. A special thank you goes out to the Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association for their warm hospitality and support throughout our stay. The insights gained and connections made during our time in Kalgoorlie will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth of volleyball in the region. Ethan Smith, Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association’s President, said of the visit,” The presence of VWA at KVA was a great pleasure for us. It provided regional volleyball players an excellent opportunity to enhance their skills and refine existing ones, thereby contributing to the improvement of our competitive performance. We extend our sincere gratitude to VWA, DLGSC and the team for their visit. ”
We look forward to future opportunities to support and collaborate with the Kalgoorlie community.
