VWA Under 14 Youth Development Squad: Building Future Champions

In its second year, the Volleyball WA Under 14 Youth Development Squad continues to make strides in nurturing young talent and preparing athletes for future State Team opportunities. The program, initiated to bridge the gap between budding athletes and the Youth State Program, focuses on increasing the athletes’ exposure to the State Team environment and facilitating their early development.

A Vision for the Future

The Volleyball WA Under 14 Youth Development Squad was launched with a clear vision: to identify and cultivate young volleyball talent in Western Australia. By introducing these young athletes to the rigours and expectations of the Youth Program early on, the Squad aims to create a seamless transition to the State Team in the coming years.

Youth Pathways Coordinator, Jordan Fancote, explains, “Our goal is to create a pathway for young athletes that not only hones their skills but also instils a deep understanding of the sport’s demands at a competitive level. By doing so, we ensure that when they reach the age for State Team selection, they’re not just physically prepared but also mentally and strategically ready.”

Comprehensive Training and Development

The Under 14 Youth Development Squad offers a comprehensive training regimen that encompasses all aspects of volleyball. From technical skills like serving, spiking, and blocking to game strategies and teamwork, the program covers it all.

Coaches involved in the program are among the best in the state, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise. “We’re privileged to have coaches who are so committed and enthusiastic,” says Jordan. “Their guidance is invaluable in shaping these young athletes.”

Building a Strong Community

Beyond the technical and physical training, the program places a strong emphasis on community and camaraderie. The young athletes get the opportunity to train alongside their U15 to U18 peers who share their passion for volleyball, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support. This community aspect is crucial in keeping the athletes motivated and engaged.

Looking Ahead

As the Volleyball WA Under 14 Youth Development Squad progresses into its second year, the focus remains on continuous improvement and growth. Plans are underway to expand the program and provide additional opportunities for competition and exposure.

With its commitment to excellence and a clear vision for the future, the Volleyball WA Under 14 Youth Development Squad is well on its way to producing the next generation of volleyball champions. As these young athletes grow and develop, they carry with them the skills, knowledge, and passion instilled by the program and its coaches, ready to take on the challenges of higher-level competition in the years to come.
