The WAVL 2023 State League Grand Final was held on Saturday at Warwick Stadium with two incredible matches witnessed by a packed house of around 1,000 people.

The Perth Steel kicked things off with a pre-match clinic for juniors aspiring to be the next crop of talent to represent the state in the national Australian Volleyball Super League.

The Women were the first to take to the court, a re-match of last year’s grand final the Balcatta Cats versus Chequers clash was a four-set showcase of skill and strategy from coach Aaron Leung with the Balcatta Cats victorious, winning 3 – 1.

In the Men’s grand final the Northern Stars got off to a strong start winning some early points but in the end, the Chequers Men’s Team came away with a 3-1 win. Both teams put on an exciting display of power and strength with the experience of coach Gavin Lewis getting the Men over the line again in 2023.

Don’t forget there is still plenty of indoor volleyball action happening with the State League Reserve and various divisions challenging to be champions later in the year on September 10.
