Volleyball is fun to play with Mates!

Volleyball WA is very pleased to have completed a successful initial activation of three publicly available volleyball courts at City Beach, Scarborough Beach and Novelli Reserve in Piara Waters.

The VolleyMates App was launched in October 2022 with the aim of generating spontaneous play opportunities by reducing the barriers to play. Lockers were installed at the three locations making the equipment readily accessible and an extensive marketing campaign followed to build awareness.

The paid advertising campaign reached over 830,000 people which resulted in almost 2,000 bookings for over 20,000 players during the short trial period.

Volleyball WA would like to thank the Department of Local Government, Sport, and Cultural Industries for the funding to support this innovation. Recent Ausplay research has shown that people are moving away from the traditional structured sport in search of more flexible active recreation. VolleyMates is facilitating these opportunities in our community and has increased the use of our public courts in public open spaces.

We would also like to thank our Local Government partners, the Town of Cambridge, the City of Stirling, and the City of Armadale for supporting the trial, allowing us to install the equipment infrastructure, and welcoming Volleyballers to play in their parks and beaches.

Volleyball WA plans to expand the number of locations throughout the State so please keep checking back on the App for new places to play.
