Volleyball WA is gearing up for an exciting and meaningful initiative—the upcoming Pride Round taking place over May 31st and June 1st, the beginning of Pride Month, is dedicated to celebrating and supporting LGBTQ+ communities within the sport. This initiative underscores the importance of inclusivity and the positive impact of representation in sport.

Studies consistently demonstrate that LGBTQ+ representation in sports significantly enhances mental health among LGBTQ+ youth. It also encourages empathy and acceptance in the broader community. By observing athletes who thrive while being true to themselves, spectators and participants receive a powerful message: authenticity and excellence are inherently linked.

The WAVL Pride Round reminds us of our collective strength, which stems from our diversity. Volleyball WA is committed to embracing and respecting the differences within our community and the larger society where we live, work, love, and celebrate. This event not only highlights the achievements of LGBTQ+ athletes but also reinforces the need for ongoing support and representation. 

By supporting LGBTQ+ communities in sport, we foster a culture where authenticity is celebrated, and everyone has the opportunity to excel.  We encourage  Clubs to participate in our “Show Your PRIDE” initiative. This is a wonderful opportunity for your club to step up as an ally and express support for the LGBTQ+ community. As we come together for this important event, we reinforce our commitment to diversity and inclusion, paving the way for a more empathetic and unified sporting community.
