Volleyball WA proudly nominated 29 dedicated volunteers for recognition at the 2025 WA Volunteer Service Awards. Each nominee has played a vital role in growing the sport – whether through coaching, officiating, governance or a Board/Committee member. This year’s celebration is a strong reminder of the collective strength and passion that drives the volleyball community forward.
Among the nominated volunteers was John Sewell, whose lifelong contribution to volleyball in Western Australia has left an incredible mark on the sport. John’s volleyball journey began in 1962 at the YMCA Perth, where he first discovered his passion for the sport. He went on to serve as President of Volleyball WA from 1975-1977, followed by a term as Vice President in 1978. John was one of the first two individuals ever appointed as a Volleyball WA Life Member – a recognition of his outstanding and ongoing contribution to the sport. In 2016, John further extended his service by joining the Volleyball WA Junior Committee.
Beyond his work with VWA, John has made significant contributions at club level, he founded and served as president of three volleyball clubs, and today, John remains an active club committee volunteer at Northern Stars Volleyball Club, where he continues to share his time and expertise.
John Sewell’s enduring legacy is a testament to the profound impact that one volunteer can have. Volleyball WA would like to congratulate John and all 28 of our other nominated volunteers on the well-deserved recognition.
Congratulations to the VWA Nominations
