Volleyball WA Appoints New Chief Executive Officer

Volleyball WA is pleased to announce the appointment of Sophie Row as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding long-serving CEO Robyn Kuhl. Sophie will commence in the role on 6 October 2025.

Sophie brings more than 30 years of leadership experience across the sport, marketing, and not-for-profit sectors in Australia and overseas. She is an accomplished CEO and Non-Executive Director with a proven track record in cultural and organisational transformation, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement.

Chair of the Board, Ian Phipps, said Sophie’s appointment represents an exciting new chapter for Volleyball WA:
“We are delighted to welcome Sophie as the next CEO of Volleyball WA. Her leadership experience, industry knowledge, and strong alignment with our values make her the ideal person to build on Robyn Kuhl’s outstanding legacy. Sophie’s passion for community sport, strategic foresight, and proven ability to deliver growth will ensure Volleyball WA continues to thrive in the years ahead.”

Sophie most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Swimming WA, where she led a values-based transformation that strengthened financial sustainability, grew participation, and built a high-performing, purpose-led team. She is also the Deputy Chair of SportWest and Chair of its Audit & Risk Committee, roles that give her valuable insight into the wider WA sport sector.

Incoming CEO, Sophie Row, said she was honoured to take on the role:
“I am thrilled to be appointed as CEO of Volleyball WA and to follow in the remarkable footsteps of Robyn Kuhl, whose visionary leadership has transformed volleyball in Western Australia. The phenomenal growth achieved during Robyn’s tenure has seen membership doubling to 22,500 and participation soaring past 350,000 and is testament to her exceptional stewardship and the sport’s incredible appeal.

Volleyball’s diverse formats, from beach and indoor volleyball to adaptive programs such as sitting volley attracting Seniors and people with disability, truly offer something for everyone in our community. I’m excited to build on this outstanding foundation and work with our passionate volleyball family to elevate to become a top-tier sport for Western Australians of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.”

Volleyball WA enters this next chapter with confidence, direction, and the foundations to further strengthen the sport across Western Australia.
