Defending champions Perth Steel have edged closer to the top of the women’s standings after securing a commanding 4:1 win against Queensland in Brisbane.
With an 18-point lead in the first three sets, Perth seemed poised for a full points haul. To earn a bonus point, the Steel needed to win the fifth and final set by nine points but fell just short (18-10).
Despite this, the result allowed Perth to surpass Melbourne on the competition ladder with one match remaining, while Queensland remains just ahead of Canberra, who still have a game in hand.
Match Scores: 12-18 | 16 – 18 | 6 –18 | 11-18 | 18-10
After dropping their first Super League match last week, The Steel men hit back with their best performance of the season with a 4:1 victory over Queensland.
The Pirates put up a stern test to limit Perth to a two-point first-set win, however, the visitors outscored Queensland by 19 in the next two sets to assert their dominance.
When Queensland took the fourth set by four points, Perth needed a five-point win in the fifth to take a bonus point. The 18-13 set win was exactly what they needed with the defending champions now feeling at home atop the Super League ladder.
Match Scores: 15-18 | 9 – 18 | 10 –18 | 18-14 | 13-18
