Perth Steel is preparing for another competitive season in the Australian Volleyball Super League (AVSL), with both the men’s and women’s teams focused on building depth, refining systems, and maintaining their place among the league’s leading programs.
For the Steel men, 2025 presents a mix of continuity and change. Head Coach Rory Read said the program has retained key experience while integrating new players to meet the demands of an evolving competition.
“The 2025 Steel Men have a mix of familiar faces and new depth added into the program this year, coming together to form a new and exciting group. Losing players to international club opportunities and national team commitments is a credit to the opportunity the AVSL offers athletes and creates a new challenge for the coaches and athletes to continue to build on our very successful first two years in the competition.”
As part of that shift, Read highlighted the inclusion of development athletes as a key step in sustaining long-term performance.
“The addition of development athletes into the training environment ensures the program is not only set up well for 2025 but forward into the future. The work has begun to try and regain the title this year.”
On the women’s side, Head Coach Pauline Manser said the return of previously injured players is set to bring greater balance and internal competition to the squad.
“2025 sees the return of two players from significant injury, which will certainly provide increased flexibility and competition amongst the squad. We will continue to build on the hard work we have done in blocking and defence to keep us in more rallies and provide additional point scoring opportunities.”
With stronger defensive foundations and a focus on consistency, the team is looking to carry that work into matches.
“We look forward to showcasing our skills and entertaining the growing crowds the AVSL format has attracted.”
The new AVSL season begins shortly, with the opening round for Perth Steel taking place on Sept. 21st at Bendat Stadium. Perth Steel aims to make the most of its off-season preparation and set the tone early.
