We are excited to announce the appointment of our newest Level 3 referees following an impressive refereeing tenure in 2024. Congratulations to Anthony Wah Day, Hoson Chong, Shahab Rasheed, and Shaun Barnett, who have achieved Level 3 Volleyball Referee status. In addition, Anthony Wah Day has also earned the distinction of becoming a Level 3 Beach Volleyball Referee.
Achieving Level 3 Referee accreditation is a rigorous process. Candidates are approved directly by the Volleyball Australia Referee Committee, requiring them to submit endorsement letters from referee mentors across Australia. Moreover, they must have officiated at national events, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the human, technical, and conceptual aspects of volleyball and its regulations.
Throughout 2024, these newly appointed Level 3 referees participated in various state, national, and international events. Their contributions spanned competitions such as the WAVL State League, Australian Youth and Junior Championships, the Australian Volleyball Super League, the Alcohol Think Again WA Open, the Australian Beach Tour, and the FIVB Futures beach competitions.
Attaining Level 3 status is not only a significant honour but also a substantial responsibility. These referees are now tasked with mentoring emerging officials while continuing to hone their own skills. We look forward to seeing them officiate at even larger events in the future!
