In an exciting development for our organisation, we are thrilled to announce the addition of new talent to our team. We have welcomed one new staff member, Rebecca de Boer, and current staff member, Myrica Maguire, to the Marketing and Communications section. Additionally, two new staff members, Aaron Tannahill and Sahil Patil have joined our Participation team as Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator and Development Coordinator – Metro, respectively.
Rebecca de Boer will be joining Volleyball WA as the VWA Advisor for Local and State Government Advocacy, particularly with ‘’Places to Play” both Indoor and Outdoor. Rebecca brings extensive experience in working across all levels of government and will assist Volleyball WA to continue to increase the profile of the entire sport throughout the Western Australia Government sector. This position is a part-time position.
Myrica Maguire will join the Marketing and Communications section one day per week to provide support to both Leah Clayton (Marketing & Communications Manager) and Rebecca, in the operational aspects of our “Places to Play” portfolio.
Aaron Tannahill is excited to join Volleyball WA as the new Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator. He comes from working part-time at Bunnings and at WA Cricket as a casual Community Cricket Officer and has graduated from ECU with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Sports Business. He is very excited to put his degree to use.
He is a bit of a fanatic when it comes to sport and loves watching and being involved in all types. He is very much a believer in the idea of ‘Sport for all’ and thinks there are so many benefits to it that everyone should be given the chance to play. He has always dreamed about being involved in an organisation that not only develops elite athletes from the grassroots level but also creates pathways for increased participation amongst disadvantaged groups.
He is most looking forward to being part of a team that promotes and delivers opportunities for people to be able to participate in a sport as accessible as Volleyball. Whether it’s the sport they love or something they’re trying for the first time, he looks forward to seeing all of the different skill levels playing under one net. He looks to focus on the Adaptive Volley program, due to the accessible nature of the sport. He is also excited to learn more about volleyball in general, as it’s a sport he has always had an interest in, but never really delved into.
Some fun facts about him: he plays drums, is a massive music and movie nerd, and he has an adorable Golden Retriever called Bondi.
Sahil Patil is excited to be joining Volleyball WA as the new Development Coordinator – Metro.
Sahil recently relocated to Perth from Melbourne for this position, where he completed his Master’s in Sport Management at La Trobe University. He is originally from India and his professional background includes working across various grassroots sports roles, including his previous roles in Melbourne as a Development Coach with Cricket Star Academy and as a Team Member (Competition) at Bundoora Indoor Sports. He has also volunteered with junior football and cricket clubs, where he has gained valuable experience in coaching, event delivery and community engagement.
Over the next 6 to 12 months, he is looking forward to engaging with our Metro Clubs and making a meaningful impact with the Kids and Junior Volley programs, particularly by creating inclusive, fun, and skill-building experiences that help kids enjoy and grow in the sport.
Some fun facts about him: he is a Professional Cricketer as well as a Certified Coach and has played for the Victoria Sub District Competition. He also likes to explore new sports for fun and try new challenges.
