Celebrating our Diversity- Harmony Cup Recap

As part of Volleyball WA’s acknowledgement and celebration of Harmony Week, we hosted the 2024 Harmony Cup, a social volleyball competition for all communities to play and celebrate our vibrant multicultural State. Thirty-five teams and three hundred and seven players from diverse backgrounds participated in the event.

This year, our event was supported by the Office of Multicultural Interests which enabled us to incorporate cultural performances on the day from the Chung Wah Lion Dance Troupe, Perth Filipino Dance Troupe and Hacchan Taiko. The Hon Ayor Makur Chuot MLC, Member for the North Metropolitan Region also attended the event to represent the Hon Dr Tony Buti MLA and the Consul-General for Japan in Perth, NAITO Yasushi, was also in attendance to support the Japanese teams and the Taiko drummers.

The Harmony Cup was a true representation of unity and diversity, with players from different backgrounds and skill levels coming together to enjoy the spirit of friendly competition. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, camaraderie, and mutual respect as teams showcased their talent and sportsmanship on the court.

“It was great to see so many people from diverse backgrounds and their families at the Harmony Cup this year. This event continues to promote our organisation’s core values of inclusivity and community.” Said Robyn Kuhl, CEO of Volleyball WA.

The 2024 Harmony Cup not only highlighted the importance of fostering understanding among various communities but also served as a reminder of the power of sports in bringing people together.
