Bunbury Volleyball

Bunbury’s Indoor Volleyball Competition kicked off on Wednesday, 7th of May. This season, they welcomed 6 surrounding high schools who entered teams in preparation for the School Sports WA Volleyball Country Week. These schools have entered a mix of both boys and girls teams and include:

  • Australind SHS
  • Bunbury SHS
  • Newton Moore SHS
  • Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School
  • Manea College
  • Bunbury Catholic College.

In an attempt to fast track their skills, each school takes a turn at participating in a Country Week Development Session before their game. Teachers, most of them non volleyball players, are also invited to attend these sessions to pick up some tips and drills – the feedback and progress has been fantastic!

Additionally, the ‘Warriors’ are also participating in the competition in Bunbury. This is a team that has been described to feature a number of ‘absolute legends’. Some of these legends (pictured below) include Ala Paszkudzka (far right) a gold medalist in Beach Volleyball at the World Masters Games in Alberta, Canada and mother in law of WA player Jonathon Hague. Greg Trunfull (second from the right), a 35 year veteran of the Bunbury Volleyball Association and Beach Volleyball bronze medalist from the World Masters Games in Sydney. And rounding off our list of legends is Jerry Bogdanoff (second from the left) a Bunbury Volleyball Association life member, Beach Volleyball gold medalist from the World Masters Games in Sydney (defeating former Australian Captain George Mraz in a cliff-hanger final) and as the urban legend goes, the founding father of beach volleyball in WA following his move from California to Australia in the 1970’s.

It sounds like there is some great volleyball to be played at Bunbury Volleyball Association!
