2014 AJVC Results

Canberra was the setting for the 2014 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships which ran from the 6th – 12th of July. Volleyball WA was exceptionally proud to send over 7 teams to represent our state. Overall, it was a successful Championship for WA. As a whole, we finished in 3rd placing behind Queensland and Victoria respectively, with four of our teams receiving medal placements and a number of our players being named as All Star 7s.

Our U17 men received a silver medal with players Forbes Montana, Greg Hunt and Paul Burnett named as All Star 7’s. Unfortunately, our U17 women (gold) just fell short of playing in the bronze medal match and our U17 women (black) finished 5th. Nevertheless, we are extremely proud of their effort.

Our U19 men and women both finished with a medal placing. The men left with a silver medal and 3 players named in the All Star 7s, Oswald Tan, Ryan Smith and Trent Mounter, while the women left with a bronze medal and player Lauren White named an All Star 7.

Our U23 men just missed out on a bronze after taking out the first and second sets of a well fought match and players Daniel Cohen and Lewis McDonald were named as All Stars. The U23 women received a silver medal with Clare Wheeler and Sophie Dixon named in the All Star 7s.

We would like to formally congratulate all our teams who competed in this year’s Australian Junior Volleyball Championship and also to the players who were named as All Star 7s. You should all be proud of your achievement in representing your State at a national competition. We hope you continue to stay committed to your sport and continue to enjoy and grow within volleyball.

We would also like to thank and congratulate our coaches for putting in tireless time to train and mentor our teams to be the best they could be. Also thank you to our referees and physios without which attending this Championship would not be possible and who contributed to our success. Lastly, a special thank you to our delegation staff, in particular our Head of Delegation Robyn Fittock, for all your hard work in preparing and overseeing all the happenings of the WA team.

Once again congratulations to our WA athletes! Let’s continue to grow together in volleyball to be bigger and better in 2015.
