Beach Volleyball is heading to one of WA’s most photographed and idyllic beach locations this November – Rottnest Island!!
Home of the famous Quokka and location for the inaugural Rotto Cup, the sands of Thomson Bay beach will host a Kings and Queens of the Court style Social Volley competition.
The format is fast and highly entertaining, best described as something like the schoolyard game of four square. Players initially challenging to rein supreme in their round and then go on to a finals series for the chance to be crowned eventual winners of either the Men’s or Women’s competition.
For our Alcohol. Think Again Beach Tour players this will be a good opportunity to get in some additional time on the sand before the series kicks off later in the month.
For our Indoor Beach Volleyball playing community which numbers more than 57,000 people, this will be a chance to challenge their skills in an outdoor environment, having to account for the sun and wind, conditions not present in the indoor game.
Then there are our Masters players, many of whom competed in the recent Australian Masters Games here in Perth earlier in the year looking for a chance to mix it up and play on an alternative beach.
We are also hoping to see beach volleyballers from the southwest taking the opportunity to make it a bit of a weekend away and a chance to socialise.
Volleyball WA would like to thank the Rottnest Island Authority and Rottnest Fast Ferries for their support of the event. This is the first time we have been able to bring beach volleyball to the Island and visitors will have the chance to “have a go” and get involved in the halftime challenges for prizes. Spectators should expect to see some of the State’s best beach volleyballers in action, Sunday, November 6 from 10 am.
Player registrations are now open but with limited numbers don’t delay in finding your playing mates and securing your spot.
