What another exciting weekend of Beach Volleyball at this year’s Alcohol. Think Again WA Open. Fourteen courts stretched the length of the beach to accommodate the field, the series biggest so far with 86 teams competing in the Women’s and Men’s Competitive and Elite Divisions plus a special Men’s U19’s Division.
The extreme heat of Saturday and the cooler but windy conditions on Sunday, presented players with additional challenges, having to adjust their game plan and style of play over the two days in order to be competitive.
The Scarborough Beach amphitheatre provides the ideal stadium feel to the finals matches played out on a centre court, the crowd enjoying front row seats to the on-court action and contest between Perth’s best beach volleyball teams.
Spectators also had plenty of other entertainment on Sunday. As always, we thank naming rights sponsor, Healthway for supporting our sport and the beach series, their “Healthy Serve Game “a lot of fun for contestants.
Thanks also to our partners Metro Hotel Perth, Morley Mitsubishi, and Sandbar who added to the festival atmosphere of the event with displays, competitions, giveaways, and activities for the kids.
Volleyball WA also appreciates the ongoing support of the City of Stirling, providing access to this wonderful stretch of coastline and surrounding amenities for players and spectators.
There were a couple of familiar faces who took home gold this year, Ky Landers and Kyla Sanchez, and then some who have had good early success in this series including Gabriel Abbott and Keete Kreen.
Volleyball WA congratulates all our winners and runners-up. Round six of the Alcohol. Think Again Beach will be held at Trigg Beach, February 19 & 20. For more information visit the Volleyball WA website.
