Indoor Season Spikes Opportunities

The indoor volleyball season is not only a transition for athletes from the sand to the hardcourt, but also a period when paid and volunteer work opportunities expand for the volleyball community within the different Volleyball WA leagues, competitions, and programs.

The commencement of the WA Volleyball League (WAVL) and WA Volleyball Junior League (WAVJL) provides opportunities for casual or hobby workers to referee or coordinate WAVJL on Friday nights, or be a venue coordinator on Sundays for WAVL. These competitions run on a weekly basis from May – September.

VWA also hosts the WA High Schools Cup across two weekends in August, the Alcohol.Think Again Country State Championships in September, and the Alcohol.Think Again Country of Origin in October, where many referees and coordinators are required as these competitions continue to grow in numbers. Additionally for 2022, the UniSport Nationals will be hosted in Perth from 24-30 September, which will provide a variety of opportunities for coordinators and referees for both beach and indoor volleyball.

For advanced coaching and refereeing opportunities, the Indoor State Team Programs provide many options to give back to our Youth and Junior State Team athletes as a volunteer coach, as well as gain National referee experience.

There are up to 20 volunteer State Team coaching positions available for both our Junior (U23) State Teams and Youth (U15-U18) State Teams commencing as early as April. Each program concludes with an interstate trip to the National Championships, where you get to showcase your team’s hard work and compete for National titles. Additionally, there are opportunities for developing referees to attend and gain experience as Referee Delegates at these events.

In October, the Australian Volleyball League commences, with WA set to host three home rounds between October and November. This a fantastic opportunity for experienced referees to get exposed to the highest level of the game in WA, as well as for volunteers to get involved in assisting with the coordination of the events.
