Indoor Is In Season

As the weather begins to cool down, volleyball players across WA dust off the sand from beach season and start preparing for the 2021 indoor WA Volleyball League (WAVL) and WA Volleyball Junior League (WAVJL). Both competitions will officially launch in May, with teams from 14 Clubs across the state competing over the next five months to claim the various division titles.

In 2020, top honours in the WA Volleyball League were shared between UWA Volleyball Club and Reds Volleyball Club. UWA took out the top two men’s awards and Reds claimed the top two women’s awards. All clubs have spent the off-season trialing and training to put their best teams forward in 2021.

UWA Club President, Kieren Underwood stated that he is, “feeling confident that UWA will be able to topple Reds to take out the title for best club in 2021, with an expanded Juniors program, increased training schedule and more teams in the competition”.

Anthony Meo, President of Reds Volleyball Club, returned with some hopeful words about his Club.

“All four State League grades are shaping up to be very competitive. After some great results last year, our women’s teams are looking to go back-to-back in 2021, while our men’s teams are focused on going deeper in finals as they look to secure the Club our first State League competition wins on the men’s side.” Said Meo.

“Our Reds Divisions’ teams are also hoping to improve on last season’s result, and we’re excited to have a fantastic group of players and coaches involved in our Divisions program once again this season.” Meo added.

In the WA Volleyball Junior League, Rossmoyne Volleyball Club and Rossmoyne SHS will return as the favourites, hoping to follow suit from 2020 and make the most finals appearances of any club or school.

Courts will soon be lined once again with the proud families and friends of our senior and junior players, cheering them to victory throughout the season. Champions will be crowned in the WA Volleyball Junior League at the August 13th Grand Final, and in the WA Volleyball League at the September 19th Grand Final.

The preliminary start to the season is this Sunday 18th April for the WAVL Division 1 Grading Day at Loftus Recreation Centre. Come down to watch the Men’s and Women’s Clubs battle it out to secure their spot in Division 1. Grading Days for Division 2 and Division 3 will follow the next two weekends.
