Following the bronze medal win at the Australian Sitting Volleyball Championships in Bendigo in September, The Volleyball WA Sitting Volleyball team reunited last Friday at Lords Recreation Centre, to introduce the sport to staff from OPS and APM and thank them for their Gold Sponsorship of the team. The event also provided an opportunity for the team to express their gratitude for each sponsor’s support by presenting a uniform and bronze medal to both organisations before getting started with the sitting volleyball activities.
Staff from OPS were thankful for the opportunity to experience sitting volleyball. “We had a wonderful time giving it a go ourselves with the team’s guidance & support.” “Volleyball WA’s dedication and team spirit will enable success at the next domestic, international & Paralympic events for sure! OPS is proud to have supported the team’s success so far!” Jess from APM was unfamiliar with sitting volleyball, though had a great time. “You couldn’t wipe the smiles of any of our faces! Also, it was quite a good work out!”
Volleyball WA’s Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator Josh Brown said that “sitting volleyball has come a long way in a short space of time in WA. Following the Australian Sitting Volleyball Championships in September, Brad Barclay and Nat Horobin were selected to represent Australian teams in China, and we now have 21 registered participants playing in the new Perth Social Sitting Volleyball League on a weekly basis. The momentum the sport has at the moment is largely thanks to the generous support from OPS and APM, allowing our team to attend the National Championships and therefore put sitting volleyball back in the spotlight!”
