Indoor Pathways Expand Through WA State Team Program

Volleyball WA’s State Team Programs are an integral step in the volleyball pathway for athletes, coaches and referees in Western Australia.

In 2022, out of the 12 WA Indoor State Teams, six collected medals at the various National Championships:

  • One Gold medal – U18 Girls (Australian Youth Volleyball Championships – AYVC)
  • Three Silver medals – WA Steel Women (Australian Volleyball League – AVL), U23 Women (Australian Junior Volleyball Championships – AJVC),  U16 Girls (Australian Youth Volleyball Championships – AYVC)
  • Two Bronze medals – WA Steel Men (Australian Volleyball League – AVL) , U15 Boys (Australian Youth Volleyball Championships – AYVC)

Western Australia sent eight Referees interstate across the three National events to develop their skills and work towards obtaining Level 3 Referee Accreditation. WA Referee, William Dundas received National recognition by being named Referee of the Tournament at the Australian Youth Volleyball Championships in Bendigo. VWA also appointed a pool of 15 Referees to coordinate the three Australian Volleyball League Home Rounds hosted by the WA Steel.

Across 12 State Teams, 21 different Coaches provided their time and expertise to the VWA Indoor State Team Programs to develop and lead youth, junior and senior athletes along their indoor volleyball pathway. Without them, volleyball in Western Australia would not be where it is today.
