Volleyball WA 2024 Photos of the Year

 

We are thrilled to unveil the winners of the 2024 Photography of the Year contest, a celebration of talent that showcases the passion of photographers dedicated to our sport. This year’s competition had an array of great images submitted by talented photographers from around the community. We are deeply grateful to all who participated and captured the essence of our sport through their lenses. Looking ahead, we are committed to further developing this contest in the years to come, enhancing the entry process, and encouraging even more photographers to join us. For those who missed the submission deadline this year, don’t worry—keep an eye out for next year’s call for entries. We appreciate all the photographers who contributed their work this year, our panel faced the challenging task of reviewing so many exceptional submissions.

During the judging process, our panel exclusively evaluated photographs that were directly submitted to the contest. The assessment criteria included composition, technical quality, and emotional appeal/impact. The submissions were categorized into four groups: Beach, Indoor, Celebration, and Overall.

Beach Photograph Winner: Christina Roberts

Feedback from the Judging Panel: Christina has successfully captured an extraordinary moment that feels almost 
impossible. The ball suspended in mid-air, combined with the athlete's dynamic pose, truly encapsulates the 
essence of beach volleyball life. This photograph not only showcases impressive timing but also evokes the energy and spirit of the beach environment.

Beach Photograph Runner-Up: Caelan Morris (Little Bear Photo)

 

Indoor Photograph Winner: Cat Bryant (Cat Bryant Photography)

 

Feedback from the Judging Panel: The photo effectively utilized stylized editing to transform challenging 
lighting conditions into a compelling visual element. Additionally, the word 'Speak' across the athlete's shoe 
added an intriguing layer to the sports shot, enhancing its overall depth and impact.

Indoor Photograph Runner Up: Steve Goode

 

Best Celebration Winner: Thomas Clark (Clark_Visual)

Feedback from the Judging Panel: This photograph beautifully captures the essence of celebration, which is a 
defining characteristic of volleyball. Overall, this image truly encapsulates the multifaceted nature of sport, 
showcasing both the highs and lows that define the spirit of the game.

Feedback from the Judging Panel: We were truly impressed by the technical skill demonstrated in this photograph. The movement and the energy is exceptional. Additionally, the central placement of the logo beautifully 
represents the community. This image not only evokes a strong sense of community sport but also highlights their expertise as a photographer.
