Celebrating Inclusivity: VWA Pride Cup 2024

November is Pride Month in Western Australia. To mark the occasion and celebrate the inclusiveness of our sport, Volleyball WA, in conjunction with the Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club, hosted the VWA Pride Cup on 16 November 2024. This was a mixed indoor social volley competition held at Gold Netball Centre with 70+ participants. “Volleyball WA was pleased to partner again with the Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club for this annual event. Their involvement is a powerful platform for promoting diversity and advocating for LGBTQIA+ inclusivity in our sport.”  said Robyn Kuhl, CEO of Volleyball WA.

Sport can break down barriers in ways that other areas of society can struggle to match, by encouraging participation, integration, and diversity. It also plays an important role in creating ‘social capital’ by developing connections, openness, and respect between different individuals and groups.

Perth Scorpions also coordinated a stall at the Pride Fairday event on Sunday 17th November to promote volleyball in the WA community. The Club has extended an invitation to the volleyball community to join them at the WA Pride Parade this year. Persons can register their interest here.
