Sunday 3rd December was International Day of People with Disability, and Volleyball WA had a busy week in the lead up, promoting our Adaptive Volley program for people with disability of all ages. These activities were led by Josh Brown, our VWA Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator.

Volleyball WA collaborated with Football Futures and Reclink Australia at the City of Rockingham’s All Abilities Come and Try event on Wednesday 29th November. It was a perfect morning on the foreshore, and it was inspiring to see so many initiatives for people with disability to get involved in their local community. We look forward to our ongoing collaboration with Reclink, who have in recent times had us along to their weekly program in Kwinana to deliver a volleyball session, with plans to visit other Reclink programs in Fremantle and Balga in 2024!

Another organisation Volleyball WA are committed to developing a partnership with is Rebound WA. Rebound WA is a charitable association assisting Western Australians living with physical disability to lead fuller, more active and more connected lives. We were fortunate enough to be welcomed along to their Whiz Kidz program in Mirrabooka and Murdoch on December 2 to deliver volleyball sessions. Participants played in wheelchairs, and some had a go at sitting volleyball, the Paralympic version of our sport, with some amazing skills on display!

This coming Saturday, our Adaptive Volley program at Leisurefit Melville comes to an end for 2023. Throughout Term 4, we have had seven people come and try both sitting and standing volleyball, and we look forward to this program growing in participant numbers and expanding to new centres going forward. Volleyball Australia has also hosted a few ParaVolley Camps in 2023 and they are currently on the look out for future Australian ParaVolley Team athletes who can represent Australia at international events. Athletes can complete the ParaVolley Expression of Interest Form to be added to their communication database and receive all information regarding upcoming camps and competitions.
