The Goldfields came alive last week as Volleyball WA and the Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association delivered an unforgettable Festival of Volleyball, bringing five days of development, community connection and elite‑level action to the region.
From May 27 to May 31, hundreds of players, coaches, families and fans took part in a packed program of clinics, workshops and participation sessions, all building momentum toward a historic highlight: the 2026 WAVL State League Regional Round.
The Evolution Mining Stadium roared as Chequers Volleyball Club and Balcatta Cats Volleyball Club hit the court for two showcase matches giving the Goldfields a rare front‑row seat to the state’s highest level of competition. Balcatta claimed the Women’s match 3-0 and the Balcatta Men also edged out a 3-2 victory for their Club.
But the heart of the festival was the active community involvement throughout the week. Locals of all ages had the opportunity to participate in various activities:
- Primary and High School clinics – 13 clinics with over 300 participants
- Junior development sessions – 16 participants
- A Sitting Volleyball clinic – 12 participants
- Coach development workshops – 11 participants
- Referee development workshop – 16 participants
- Community participation clinic – 45 participants
- The Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association WA Day Weekend Tournament – 10 teams
These sessions didn’t just teach skills — they built confidence, connection and a stronger pathway for volleyball in the region. For many young players, it was their first chance to learn directly from state‑level coaches and athletes.
A special thank‑you to the Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association for their incredible partnership, local leadership and on‑the‑ground support throughout the entire Festival of Volleyball. Their commitment to growing the sport in the Goldfields, mobilising volunteers and welcoming the wider volleyball community played a huge role in making this event such a success. The passion and pride they bring to the region is the reason events like this can thrive.
This event was supported by the WA Government, through the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, whose $30,000 investment made the Regional Round possible and the City of Kalgoorlie–Boulder through the Kalgoorlie Volleyball Association.
