Shaun Barnett Honoured with SportWest’s Community Sport Volunteer Award

Volleyball WA is thrilled to announce Shaun Barnett’s recognition as SportWest’s rebel Community Sport Volunteer for the Spring season of 2023. As a devoted member of the Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club, Shaun’s outstanding contributions extend far beyond his role as Club President.

Shaun’s commitment to the volleyball community is showcased through his diverse involvement, serving as the President of the LGBTQIA+ Volleyball Club within WA’s vibrant volleyball landscape. Notably, he played a key role in the historic first season of the Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club in the WAVL (Western Australian Volleyball League). Concurrently, Shaun led the organisation of the club’s inaugural Junior Camp, catering to secondary school students aged 12-17.

His dedication continued with the successful execution of the Club’s first-ever Awards Night in October, recognising, and celebrating the achievements of its members. Shaun’s passion for inclusivity and community engagement was evident through his active participation in events like the Pride Fair Day, Pride Parade, and the Pride Cup, highlighting his commitment to fostering an inclusive volleyball environment.

Beyond his presidential duties, Shaun’s excellence as a Level 2 State Referee reached new heights, earning him an invitation to join Volleyball WA’s Referee Committee in November. Additionally, he was selected as the Referee Supervisor for the 2023 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup on the Gold Coast.

Shaun’s multifaceted contributions significantly enrich the landscape of the Perth Scorpions Volleyball Club. His collaboration with Volleyball WA, coupled with his unwavering commitment to personal and professional development, places Shaun in a league of his own.

Volleyball WA extends warm congratulations to Shaun Barnett for his outstanding achievements and contributions to the volleyball community. His dedication and passion serve as an inspiration, and we eagerly anticipate the continued positive impact he will undoubtedly make in the future.

Congratulations, Shaun!
