Meet Denzil Fernandes, a finalist for the City of Rockingham’s 2024 Sports Star Awards’ Volunteer of the Year. From 1 July, 2023, to 30 June, 2024, Denzil has made remarkable contributions to the Baldivis volleyball community.

In September-October 2023, he founded the Baldivis Volleyball Association (BVA), formalising and expanding volleyball opportunities in the area. Under his leadership, the BVA now fields two teams in the Western Australian Volleyball League (WAVL) and the Western Australian Volleyball Junior League (WAVJL). Denzil has also ensured the continuation of the Kids and Junior Volley Programs, providing essential development opportunities for young players.

Denzil introduced social volleyball, catering to players of all skill levels and fostering a sense of community. Additionally, Denzil has actively applied for grants and participated in Volleyball WA events, securing vital funding and support for the association.

Denzil’s hard work and dedication have enriched the local volleyball scene, creating a thriving environment for players of all ages and skill levels. As a finalist for the Volunteer of the Year Award, Denzil exemplifies the impact of passion and commitment.
