On 19 September, the Volleyball WA Sitting Volleyball Cup was successfully held at Bendat Basketball Centre, bringing together athletes, volunteers, and supporters for an exciting day of inclusive competition.
Five teams took to the courts, showcasing their skills, teamwork, and determination in a fantastic celebration of sitting volleyball. The event highlighted the continued growth of adaptive volleyball opportunities in Western Australia and provided a welcoming environment for players of all abilities to compete and connect.
Congratulations to Southern Cross Masters White who were crowned 2026 Volleyball WA Sitting Volleyball Cup Champions and The Replacements who finished as Runners-Up after strong performances throughout the tournament.
Volleyball WA would like to sincerely thank our participating clubs and organisations for their support and involvement: Reds Volleyball Club, Southern Cross Masters Volleyball Club, Mandurah Volleyball Association.
A special thank you goes to Volleyball Australia and Nam Pham, General Manager Disability Sport and Technical Development, for support in setting up the courts and helping ensure the event ran smoothly. Their expertise was instrumental in delivering a high-quality competition experience for all participants.
The Sitting Volleyball Cup followed on from the successful Adaptive Volleyball Coaching Development Session held on 8 September at Leisurefit Melville. The session was delivered by Sitting Volleyball State Team Head Coach Tatiana Ray and ParaVolleyroo Bradley Barclay, providing coaches, players, and community members with the opportunity to learn more about adaptive and inclusive volleyball practices.
Participants were introduced to both sitting volleyball and chair volleyball, gaining hands-on experience and insight into how the sport can be adapted to create inclusive opportunities for people with diverse abilities. Attendees also explored a range of inclusive coaching practices, taking away valuable knowledge to support the growth of adaptive volleyball programs across the state.
Together, these events represent an important step forward for adaptive volleyball in Western Australia and were both proudly supported by the WA Government. Through competitions such as the Sitting Volleyball Cup and ongoing coach development opportunities, Volleyball WA continues to build accessible pathways that enable more people to participate, compete, and enjoy the game.
