December is a jam-packed month for volleyball in Australia, with three major events coming up: The Great Ocean Road Beach Volleyfest in Torquay followed by both the Australian Volleyball League (AVL) Grand Final and the Australian Schools Cup in the Gold Coast.
The Beach Volleyfest is made up by two international events, including an Elite 16 competition, the highest-level event on the Beach Pro Tour. This will be followed immediately after by the first stop of the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour. WA will be proudly represented at all three events by members of our referee community.
At the international events of the Beach Volleyfest Derek Scales will be on lines duty alongside Sam Delany and Will Dundas who will be scoring. Derek and Sam will then stay in Torquay and referee the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour.
Dani Francis will be refereeing at AVL Finals and Oliver Guazzelli will be scoring the games.
To finish off, we have 6 WA representatives for the Australian Schools Cup. Oliver Guazzelli will be the main Referee Delegate, Dani Francis will be the Volunteer Manager, and Steve Page will be a floater. Jimi Baird, Will Dundas, and Samantha Shillington will be Referee Supervisors.
Being a referee gives you a front row seat to many great sporting events, while also a great opportunity to travel, develop personal skills, and, who knows, maybe even meet a sporting idol!
Volleyball WA is proud of all these individuals and the many others who have represented our state throughout the year on the ref stand.
