With pristine coastlines which stretch the entire length of our state it is no wonder West Australians are so good at Beach Volleyball. With clubs as far south as Albany and as for north as Broome there are plenty of opportunities for people to give it a go and who knows where the next Olympic medalists might come from.
Each summer the public beach volleyball courts at Cottesloe, City Beach and Floreat are in hot demand from players wanting to train and soon there will be another 4 courts at Scarborough Beach. This is in addition to the beach courts at West Perth, Piara Waters and Cockburn. Players compete each year in the Alcohol.Think Again Beach Tour which runs across several different local and regional beaches. High Schools also compete in this discipline at the Think, Again High School Beach Cups in November, and March.
Dedicated beach volleyball clubs like The Hub Beach Volleyball Club which train at the Inner-City Beach courts in West Perth have programs for kids, juniors, high-performance athletes and more. West Coast Beach Volleyball Club which train in North Beach offer opportunities for all ages and skills, run a Masters Tournament in January and other championships throughout the year. season. And then you have Sandsports who have facilities in Nedlands and North Perth that run graded and mixed social beach volleyball competitions throughout the year.
Then there are the regional clubs in Albany, Esperance, Collie, Bunbury, Busselton, Mandurah, and Broome plus competitions in Geraldton to make this one of the state’s most accessible sports.
Not to forget our wonderful Indoor Beach Volleyball Centres, 8 in total around the state who offer people opportunities to play most nights of the week and weekends there is really no reason why WA can’t produce Olympic talent the likes of that which was on display in Tokyo.
We congratulate Olympic Beach Volleyballers Taliqua Clancy, Mariafe Artacho del Solar, Chris McHugh, and Damien Schumann who represented Australia with heart and passion, paying off for the women who won Silver!
