Over the March long weekend, Esperance Volleyball Association hosted the annual WA Country Beach Volleyball Championships with competitors coming from Busselton and Albany to compete against the local Esperance teams.

Ten Men’s and five Women’s 2 a side teams competed in perfect conditions over the Saturday and Sunday.

With a very even competition across both the men’s and women’s Divisions both grand finals resulted in all Esperance teams competing against each other.  The men’s teams of Karl Gurney/ Nick Wells vs Chris Wells/Andrew resulted in a 2:1 (21:18) (15:21) (17:19) win to Chris Wells/Andrew Wells.   The women’s teams of  Hayley Wells/Andrea Lambert vs Danita Behrens/Michell Behrens resulted in a 2:0 (21:11) (21:8) win to Hayley Wells/Andrea Lambert who made it back to back tournament wins.

Overall the competition was a great success.  Thanks go to the Department of Sport & Recreation for a grant to help stage the tournament.  Thanks also to Max Wason from VWA who acted as Tournament Director and Danni Francis as and Referee co-ordinator.
