The Collie women’s volleyball team, Collie Heist, has claimed victory in the B-grade at the 31st annual Coal Cup Volleyball Tournament at the weekend. In what proved to be a nail biter grand final, Collie Heist defeated Busselton’s Love Set Smash in three sets that went to a golden point in the third set.
The annual Coal Cup attracted a full field of 41 teams in just two days showing how popular the event has become with the teams from not only the South-West but also with those who travel down from Perth.
While the on-court competition is serious for the 300 plus players it is always a little fun as well with teams taking on some very creative names and costuming. The Court is Dark and Full of Terrors, which were dressed in Game of Thrones theme, won the coveted Collie Coal Cup, which is awarded to a team based on costume, commitment to duty and getting into the right spirit of the game.
Collie Volley Club President, Kyle Hulls “thanked sponsor Premier Coal for the new court net plus everyone that volunteered and came along to cheer for their team”.
