Volleyball WA, with support through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC) Active Regional Communities Grants program, was pleased to be able to support the Tom Price Volleyball Association and the growing playing community in Tom Price in July 2024.
The grant money provided the means to send Steve Page, a Level 3 Coach and Referee, to the region for various clinics and education workshops. This opportunity allowed Steve to deliver several school clinics and a junior community clinic, providing valuable training that might not have been readily available otherwise. The Junior clinic incorporated the local Tom Price coaches to build their coaching capacity to start a new junior programs in the town.
In addition to the clinics, Steve also dedicated time to upskill teachers in the region. By sharing his expertise, he empowered them to continue delivering the sport in schools even after his visit. This knowledge transfer ensures that the impact of the grant money extends beyond the immediate clinics and reaches a broader audience.
Furthermore, Steve’s presence allowed local referees to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the game. By working closely with them, he provided them with a valuable opportunity to improve their skills and develop a deeper understanding of the sport. This not only benefits the referees themselves but also contributes to the overall quality of officiating in Tom Price.
The State Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is a major supporter of Volleyball WA’s Pilbara Development Trip (Tom Price) in Western Australia. Sport and recreation creates vibrant, inclusive and connected communities.
