Volleyball WA continues to celebrate the diversity in our sport and provide opportunities for persons from all backgrounds to participate through the annual Alcohol. Think Again Country of Origin social volley events. These events are presented by our Partner, Healthway, promoting the Alcohol. Think Again message.
Forty-five teams from nineteen countries of Origin have nominated for the Indoor event this year which will be held on Sunday 25th October at HBF Joondalup. Some of the countries include: Afghanistan, Australia, Brazil, Fiji, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Rodrigues Island, Samoa, Taiwan. The event has increased by 14 teams in comparison with the 2019 edition.
Volleyball WA CEO Robyn Kuhl said she was excited to see such a diverse range of communities participating in this event.
“Sport is a universal language that fosters community and inclusive values throughout the world. Multicultural communities look forward to participating in this event every year and we have reduced the barriers to give them an opportunity to get involved in the sport at a competitive level,” said Kuhl.
Healthway Director of Health Promotion Julia Knapton said, the WA Country of Origin Volleyball competition will provide a fun and friendly opportunity for Western Australians from different cultural backgrounds to enjoy playing volleyball.
“Through the promotion of the Alcohol.Think Again message, our partnership with Volleyball WA is helping to educate the local community, and prevent harm from alcohol,” Ms Knapton said.
