Volleyball WA has made significant strides in acknowledging and celebrating NAIDOC Week through various initiatives. The organization’s Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been submitted to Reconciliation Australia for feedback, demonstrating a commitment to fostering reconciliation. Additionally, the VWA Reconciliation Working Group has collaborated with Delphine Schwarze from True HeART Designs to commission an artwork for Volleyball WA. The artwork design, set to be launched in August, has been licensed for use in media, publications, and uniforms, showcasing a blend of culture and sport.
This year, the National NAIDOC Committee has chosen the theme “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.” This powerful theme celebrates the resilience and strength of Indigenous communities, urging everyone to unite and amplify historically marginalised voices. The spirit of solidarity and empowerment it embodies encourages individuals to engage with and support local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities through various activities and events across the state.
Volleyball WA extends a warm invitation to individuals from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds interested in contributing to the Reconciliation Working Group. This group plays a vital role in shaping the direction of the sport towards reconciliation. Those interested in getting involved or seeking more information can contact the Participation Manager at participation@volleyballwa.com.au or by calling 9228 8522.
By recognizing NAIDOC Week and actively engaging with Indigenous communities, Volleyball WA is focused on fostering inclusivity, understanding, and unity within the sport and beyond.
