Volleyball WA Announces New Performance Pathways Coach and Spring Development Clinics

Volleyball Western Australia is excited to announce the appointment of Jose Manuel Martinez OLY as the new Performance Pathways Coach, a key addition to the organisation’s commitment to the continuous development of talent-identified athletes and coaches aiming towards their inclusion to National Team programs.

Martinez brings extensive experience in elite volleyball environments, having been part of the Mexican National Team for 8 years which included a historical classification to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. As a player he also competed in the Mexican collegiate league, played professionally in Mexico and in France, has medalled 4 different times in the Australian Volleyball League / Super League, and is a 4-time WAVL Champion. As a coach, he was the head coach for the IberoAmerican University – Leon representative teams, coached several Melbourne University Renegades and Chequers Volleyball Club programs and teams, and was appointed the Middle Blocker Specialist Coach for the Junior State Team Program.

Jose’s focus will be the planning and delivery of a nationally aligned performance program aimed to eventually become an Australian Volleyball Academy Hub in Perth. He will also provide coach mentoring to VWA programs and assist with Talent Identification Camps and State Team Programs in both Metro and Regional Western Australia.

This announcement coincides with the launch of Spring Development Clinics, set to begin later this month, designed for athletes aged 15-20 looking to elevate their skills. Delivered by a team of experienced coaches, the clinics will focus on technical skill fundamentals, tactical elements, and a performance mindset.

“We’re thrilled to have Jose join our team,” said Jackie Tamburri, VWA’s Pathways Manager. “His expertise will strengthen our development programs and help shape the next generation of volleyball athletes in WA.”

Registrations for the Spring Development Clinics are now open and note that spaces are limited.
