Spikes in the Outback: Karratha Hosts Regional Volleyball Event

Volleyball WA (VWA) in conjunction with the North West Volleyball Association, will host one 2025 WA Volleyball League (WAVL) State League Round with 1 Men’s and 1 Women’s game at the Karratha Leisureplex. This event has been scheduled around the North West Regional Tournament hosted by North West Volleyball Association (NWVA)  on 7th-8th June, to create a festival week of volleyball in Karratha (4th-8th June, 2025). We are pleased to announce the four teams who have been selected by a Selection Committee to participate in this round: Women’s: Reds vs Chequers – 4:30 PM, Men’s: UWA vs Chequers – 6:00 PM.

The annual North West Regional Volleyball Tournament will feature men’s and women’s teams from Tom Price, Port Hedland, and Karratha, with a total of 13 teams competing for the coveted Champions Shield. We would like to acknowledge the North West Committee, who have been collaborating with Volleyball WA from 2024 to plan and execute both events so that Karratha and the surrounding Pilbara communities can be exposed to the highest levels of our sport in WA, and expand our sport’s reach in the Pilbara community.

In addition to the Association’s Tournament and WAVL matches, Volleyball WA will be hosting a series of clinics and workshops during the week aimed at schools, social players, and community members. These sessions will focus on coaching, refereeing, and general skill development, all free of charge and open to the public. Times may be subject to change.

We would like to thank the City of Karratha for its support through the Community Grants and Contributions Scheme. We would also thank the State government, through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and Lotterywest, which is a major supporter of the Volleyball WA Regional Round in Western Australia. Sport and recreation create vibrant, inclusive, and connected WA communities. The grant funding from both departments has made this incredible event possible.
