The Rossmoyne Raptors Men’s Volleyball team had an unforgettable experience during their week-long tour of Japan, which boosted their skills and created lasting memories of international camaraderie. Led by Head Coach Ella Stewart and managed by Jemah Kelly, the team was the only international squad to compete in Japan’s FLV tournament.
The FLV tournament is renowned for its high level of competition, attracting top teams from across Japan. Despite being the sole international team, the Raptors held their own, securing a 3rd-place finish. This achievement highlighted their determination and skill, showing they could compete with Japan’s best amateur volleyball teams.
One of the tour’s highlights was competing against two of Japan’s top universities, Keio University and Rissho University. These intense matches tested the Raptors’ abilities, but they showed great teamwork, strategy, and composure, key elements of their success.
The team also had the privilege of training with the local high school team from Komaba High School. Under Coach Stewart’s guidance, the session allowed the Raptors to learn from Japan’s volleyball culture and exchange valuable insights, strengthening their skills and global perspective on the sport.
Beyond competition, the trip offered an opportunity for cultural exchange. The team felt immense pride in representing Western Australia on the global stage. Their performance was a testament to their hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship.
Returning home, the Raptors brought back more than just a third-place trophy. They returned with enhanced skills, deeper connections, and a renewed passion for volleyball. This international experience set a new standard for the team, and they eagerly look forward to future global opportunities.
