The Australian Volleyball Super League thrillingly began its latest season over the weekend, as fans were treated to an exciting first round of matches. The Steel team took to the court with high hopes, eager to kick off the season positively.
In the women’s match, the Steel faced off against the Adelaide Storm in a closely contested battle that went down to the wire. Despite a valiant effort, the Steel women ultimately fell short, losing 3-2 to their opponents. The match saw the debut of several players including Caitlin Waterfall, Leah Clayton, Hayley Fry, and Jolie du Plessis. Sets two and four were particularly intense, with both teams trading runs before Perth claimed the second set and Adelaide secured the fourth, ultimately winning the match. However, the Steel women fought hard and managed to secure the fifth set, earning crucial extra points for the season.

In a thrilling men’s volleyball match, Steel and The Storm faced off in a fierce battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Steel took the lead by winning the first set, but The Storm fought back, resulting in a nail-biting fifth set. The tension escalated when The Storm was on match point, only for Steel to equalize with a powerful block by Ky Landers, tying the score at 17 all. Steel finished the intense match off of a strong serve from captain Daniel Piggott that led to an overpass kill by Jordan Fancote to secure the win.

The opening round of the Australian Volleyball Super League certainly set the stage for an action-packed and competitive season ahead. Fans can look forward to more thrilling matches and standout performances as the teams battle for glory on the court.
